The Cycle to School (COOL) Project for CHANGE in the lives of needy Namibian children
Cool (Cycle to School)
is an empowerment project that endeavours to CHANGE
the lives of hundreds, and hopefully in the future, thousands of Namibian children.
This initiative came from Dr Ndeutala Angolo, Permanent Secretary of State, and the office of the Founding President and Father of the Namibian Nation, Dr Sam Nujoma (Patron of the MMCT) as well as the current President of the Republic of Namibia, His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba. According to Dr Angolo, many children in the northern regions of Namibia have to travel long distances by feet to get to school every day. The vast distance between home and school often makes it impossible for the largest portion of Namibia`s children to attend school on a daily basis. As a result most of these children attend school only two days a week instead of the normal five enjoyed by most children in other parts of the country. If the children in these areas attend school every day, their academic progress will improve and this in turn will ensure that the future leaders of Namibia, namely its children, will obtain proper education.
The aim of the Cool Project is therefore to provide Namibian Children in the northern regions with high quality bicycles, specially designed for rough terrains, to enable them to go to school and to participate in special after school programmes. These special bicycles are designed and manufactured by Mr Hans Schauff at his factory in Remagen, Germany. The Schauff family business produces high quality bicycles since 1907 and was exactly the right people to participate in this wonderful project. Manufacturing the bicycles in Germany and then transport them to Namibia has proven to be a financial challenge. Be that as it may, it is an essential and extremely important project.
The Cool Project is also in line with one of the strategic objectives of the Trust, which is to empower and equip the children of Namibia through the creation of training and education opportunities. Children should constantly be encouraged to achieve greater heights in life, therefore the MMCT has initiated various projects (individuals and groups) throughout Namibia with the aim to support and promote the welfare of children in Namibia. The main focus has been and still is the Namibian child.
However, without the continued assistance of private companies, individuals and other NGOs the abovementioned efforts would simply remain a dream. It is against this background that the MMCT would like to kindly request a donation/pledge towards this humble initiative.
